The port of Calais is the 2^nd largest one in Europe with regard to trade with Britain, the 2^nd largest one in the world with regard to passenger traffic and the 4^th trading port in France. More than 11 million passengers were carried in 2008. In the same year, nearly 2 million passenger cars and over 1.7 million lorries passed through the harbour facilities. A major development plan for the port (“Calais Port 2015”) is currently under discussion.
